Overview of the FDIC's bank resolution process and the impact of a receivership on qualified pension plans, non-qualified pension plans and bank-owned life insurance.

 

Joe Hawkes is Counsel with the FDIC Asset Management Division in Irvine, CA, and is the FDIC subject matter expert for employee benefit issues for the western United States.  Before joining the FDIC in March 2009, Joe worked at PFF Bank & Trust in Claremont, CA, serving as the manager of the Legal Department and Trust Department at various times over a 16 year career at the bank.  While running Legal, he worked closely with the bank’s loan division, providing legal/compliance support and training on residential, construction and commercial loan issues.  In the Trust Department, Joe oversaw the management of $330 million in assets for family trusts, qualified pension plans and deferred compensation plans. Prior to joining the bank, he practiced insurance defense litigation in Santa Barbara, CA. Mr. Hawkes earned his law degree at Santa Clara University in 1990.
